There are many reasons why cats may purr. Purring may have developed as an evolutionary advantage as a signaling mechanism of reassurance between mother cats and kittens nursing. Purring could also be a signal to another animal that the cat does not pose a threat. It could be a way of communicating and a form of self soothing or healing.

There are a few reasons why cats purr - some reason why they are happy and some reason why they are not. Some reasons are that the cats are trying to communicate with their muscles in the face, neck and whiskers which are trying to communicate with the brain in the brain.

In most cases, cats will purr when they are in a relaxed environment, sending out waves of calmness. This may also occur when you stroke them, and if this is the case, your feline friend is feeling happy or sociable. However, cats purr to communicate other emotions and needs, too.
