Why do cats meow?

I am not sure why they meow instead of creating other sounds.

Cats meow to communicate differently to us. They can do it to say hello, ask for things or to tell us when something is wrong. Adult cats don't meow at each other and only do it to human beings .

Meowing at people is to some extent a learned way of behaving. All felines whimper as cats to stand out enough to be noticed when they're harmed, cold or when she incidentally sits on them.

Meoh sound from the cat is a way of communicating with fellow cats like greetings and when asking something like food from human being and  even alerting people if there is any danger.
