My cat is around 4 years old. I used to give her and her sister each 1.375 oz of food. Now that I have only one cat, I've been giving her 2.75 oz of food. I think this is too much and I want to cut her back to 1.83oz.  The problem is that this sections up cat food into thirds and I think the cat food is only good in the refrigerator for two days. How long is cat food good for in the refrigerator? How much is enough for a single serving from a 5.5 oz can?

Closed cans of cat food can remain fresh for several years when stored in a cool and dry place.Once cans of food have been opened can only last for 5-7 days.

Cat food will last in the refrigerator for two days. It goes up to three parts in three days when it gets too cold for the cat food to be good in the fridge again.

Opened canned cat food can stay fresh in the refrigerator for up to 3-5 days, while dry cat food can last for up to 6 weeks if stored in an airtight container. Follow the manufacturer's instructions and use your best judgment when feeding your cat.

Opened wet cat food can be good for up to 4-5 days if covered with food wrap or a sealed container in the refrigerator. For servings that depends on your cats weight, health, and more things. Typically, the average sized adult cat can be fed one 3 ounce can per 3-3 and the half pounds of body weight daily. If your cat also eats dry food you should adjust this amount.

Your pet's bowl should be emptied of moist or canned food not eaten by your cat or dog within 4 hours if the ambient temperature is above 50°F. Opened cans should be stored in the fridge, at temperatures between 40-45°F, for a maximum of 5-7 days. Any cat or dog food remaining after that time should be thrown out.

Generally, cat food can be refrigerated for about 2-3 days. To address your portioning concern, you can consider freezing the remaining portion and thawing it as needed. As for serving size, a common recommendation is about 1 ounce of canned cat food per pound of body weight per day. Adjustments may be needed based on your cat's individual needs, activity level, and health. Always consult with your veterinarian for personalized feeding advice.
