Catnip contains a liquid substance called nepetalactone. The smell of nepetalactone stimulates receptors that help cats to sense a chemical called pheromones. This sense of pheromones makes the cat extremely happy. Cats get high on it.

It encourages play and can act as a companion avoiding boredom if the cat stays home alone. This helps the cat to relieve anxiety too and encourages scratching.

Catnip is a plant that contains a chemical compound called nepetalactone, which has an effect on cats when they smell it. When cats encounter catnip, they often become more active, rolling around, rubbing against the plant, and purring. They may also drool, meow, and even become aggressive. The effects typically last for about 10 minutes before wearing off.

Most cats react to catnip by rolling, flipping, rubbing, and eventually zoning out. They may meow or growl at the same time. Other cats become hyperactive or downright aggressive, especially if you approach them. Usually these sessions last about 10 minutes, after which your cat loses interest.

Catnip, a plant in the mint family, contains a compound called nepetalactone that can trigger a temporary euphoric response in cats. When cats come into contact with catnip, they may exhibit behaviors like rolling, rubbing, and increased playfulness. Not all cats are affected, as sensitivity to catnip is inherited, and it tends to wear off after about 10-15 minutes.
