Sometimes a cat may wag or thump her tail while she's sitter down. It can probably happen to pet it. This can indicate maybe annoyance and signal that you leave it alone by giving it space.

If the cat's tail is up it could mean relaxed and content. Sometimes cat tail waving while lying may indicate that they're in pain or feeling unwell and also behaving out of sorts such as going off their food or spending a lot of time in hiding. Take them to the vet as soon as possible for a diagnosis.

the cat may wag its tail upwards to express its love to you or it may need your attention and time to spend with you when you leaves it

Cats thump their tails when they are feeling relaxed and content. This behavior is thought to be an expression of pleasure, and it is believed that cats thump their tails as a way of expressing their happiness. The thumping motion may also be a way of releasing excess energy.

Cats Sometimes Wag or Thump Their Tails While Lying Down

It may seem especially strange when cats wag or thump their tails while relaxing. Often, it means she's beginning to feel a little overstimulated. If she's lying down or even sitting calmly, she may swish her tail a little after you've been petting her.
