Cats may eat their kittens typically if they are deformed, stillborn, or have birth defects. They commonly eat the placenta of their kittens and this is completely normal behavior. This might include a perceived threat from another animal, but quite often it is us as humans that inadvertently cause our new feline family stress.

Male cats usually kill kittens so that they can mate with their mother and reproduce their own generation. This dates back in history when a rival would kill a young one so that the former can continue to reproduce his generation.

There’s many reasons why, their territorial nature is the most common reason, there are others too. It can be an accident from their predatory drive and lack of socialization. They also see them as competition. They cant tell the difference from male and female kittens. They see any extraneous cats in their territory as a threat.

Male cats may kill kittens for a few reasons. One is territorial behavior, as male cats may see kittens as intruders in their territory and may attempt to protect it. Male cats may also kill kittens out of instinct, as they may see them as prey. In some cases, male cats may also kill kittens if they feel threatened or if they are competing for resources.

Male cats in the wild would often kill rival cats' kittens in order to protect their territory. Though cats have been domesticated for an estimated ten thousand years, some of their innate instincts from their time in the wild have endured.
