My cat now sleeps a lot. Is this because it is old or just tiredness.

They sleep for long periods to preserve the energy they need to hunt, cause and kill their next meal. They have evolved to do so.

Well maybe that is for the wild ones. I am talking about the domesticated ones like mine that sleep most of the time after all they don't hunt for food.

they sleep a lot to gain and preserve their energy if they are gonna hunt or kill other preys even then it sleeps a lot this is the main reason for more sleeping
