They can swim if they fall in water instinctively. But due to panicking they can drown if one is not around to save them since they are poor swimmers if not trained to do so.
Cats can swim and some actually enjoy the water. Any cat is able to instinctively swim if they need to to or choose to do so. However many may not enjoy it as much as dogs do.
Cats are generally able to swim, though some breeds may be more inclined to do so than others. Whiskers can help cats detect changes in water currents, allowing them to navigate their environment when swimming.
All kidding aside, cats have some incredible adaptations that have allowed them to survive in some challenging environments. Despite having evolved in the desert, cats swim remarkably well.
