Taxonomy, the scientific name Felis catus was proposed by Carl Linnaeus in 1758 for a domestic cat. A female cat is most often called a Molly, or sometimes less creatively called a she-cat. The graceful elegance of cats gives them a feminine air. Whilst this is true, it's only part of the picture and the actual explanation is much less flattering to the feline.
