The different eye colors of cats is caused by the amount of melanin produced in the iris. Cats with two different colored eyes often have a condition called heterochromia, which is caused by a lack of melanin in one eye. This condition is more common in cats with white fur, as the lack of melanin is more pronounced in white fur.
