I was wondering why stray mother cats abandoned their kittens so early. In fact, I am not aware of the exact month or months a mother cat stops raising her offspring.
Mostly around 12 weeks as they are still young and need the guidance of their mom. Usually, separation earlier than this will cause poor development of the kittens.
Kittens can leave their Mom at 10-12 weeks of age. When a kitten is separated from its mother, it tends to forget quickly. If they were reunited with the mother they wouldn't recognize her face. Cats don't remember others' visions instead they remember them by scents.
Mother cats typically take care of their kittens until they are around 8-10 weeks old. At this point, the kittens are able to feed and groom themselves and are ready to explore the world on their own. However, some mother cats may abandon their kittens earlier if they are not able to provide adequate care. This can happen due to a lack of food or other resources, or if the mother cat is feeling stressed or threatened.
By the time the kittens reach 8 weeks old, they should be able to eat solid foods and the mother's milk will start to dry up. Some kittens will continue to nurse even up to 12 weeks old, though usually nursing to this age is mostly for the purpose of comforting the kittens rather than for providing nutrition.
A mother cat typically takes care of her kittens for about 6 to 8 weeks, providing them with nursing, grooming, and protection. After this period, the kittens start to become more independent and may begin eating solid food. However, the mother's influence and guidance can continue as the kittens grow.
